Location Description:

Kawaba is a small town located in the mountains of Northern Gunma. It is very scenic and gets lots of snow in the winter. It also stays relatively cool in the summer.

Things in Kawaba:

Denin Plaza: A farmers' market, bakery, microbrewery, sausage making, homemade juices, yogurt, and ice cream all in one place!

Kawaba Ski Park: This is a small ski slope. Some of the runs are very narrow and thus this slope is not reccomended for beginners.

Hiking: travellig north from Kawaba on Rt. 64 there are many access points to Mt. Hotaka.

Route 64: A great scenic drive that connects Kawaba with Katashina and Tone. It makes for a wonderful Sunday drive as it is the road less taken. It is closed in the winter.

by Car
Head north on Rt. 17 until you get to Numata. There turn right onto Rt. 120. Stay on Rt. 120 until you get past the Numata I.C. Then move over to the left lane. This lane turns into a turning lane that heads to Kawaba.

You could also take the Kanetsu Expressway to the Numata I.C. (Toward Niigata when coming from Maebashi.) Then follow the above directions from there.
