Does Gunma have a professional baseball team? If not, which baseball team do they favor? If it helps, I'll be in Kuni-mura.

Gunma Diamond Pegasus is Gunma's pro baseball team. Of course, by pro, I mean semi-pro bush league. They play all around Gunma against teams from other nearby prefectures, and tickets to watch are usually only about 1000 yen a pop. On the other hand, if you're looking for Pro-Yakyu League stuff, then the closest team is the Seibu Lions out of Saitama City, and then Yakult Swallows and Yomiuri Giants both playing out of Tokyo.

Depends on the person. A lot of my students love the Giants, though one or two kids in every class will root for the Tigers (Hanshin Tigers). They're the two big rival teams (Yankees and Sox, I guess), from what I understand.

It's sort of like America, I suppose -- your state/city may have a pro team, but if they suck, you might be more of a fan of the nearest "big" team -- in this case, the Giants...

The closest big team to us is the Seibu Lions. Remember that Saitama is before Tokyo heading west. That being said, you're definitely right with the Giants/Tigers thing. I think a lot of people, especially kids choose those two teams because of the hype of the rivalry.

I guess that's why most of the kids diss the Lions and go for the Giants.

Who wants to root for the Pirates or the Phillies when you can go for the Sox or the Yankees?
