Bike shops in Gunma

Here are some of the better bike shops in Gunma to go to if you want something nicer than a heavy, single-speed mamachari. There are more bike shops in Gunma than this; these shops have big selections of different types of bikes, decent accesories selection, may have or be able to order larger sized bikes. All are larger than most bike shops in Tokyo, have comparable prices. Might as well buy your bike here in Gunma, get local service and support when you have a problem. Most of these stores are open 10 a.m. to 7pm, are closed 1 day during the week. Check the websites or call for details.

Bicycle Shop Revox

About 2km from Isesaki station, on Hwy 2, near Isesaki Kenmin Byouin (hospital). Slightly better prices than the other stores (always helps to shop around though), & they were happy to order parts, set up a new larger-frame bike for me just the way I want it. Excellent service.

Takizawa Cycle
http://www.takizawa-web.com/shop08.html
About 2.5km north of Maebashi station & 1 stoplight south of Saty. 'Harp' is their in-store brand of bicycles that they make. Big selection, good service & good reputation. Staff can be a bit rude and snobbish at times, though. It took 30 minutes for the staff to look in their catalogs for a common part I wanted but they didn't have. The part came in a week, and they installed it for free, though.

Cycle Yoshida

2 locations: biggest is 1 large block west of Takasaki Tonyamachi station (1 stn north of Takasaki stn; probably the biggest bike shop in Gunma in terms of floor space) & 2nd store is smaller, in western Isesaki on Hwy 2. Like Takizawa, the staff can be snobs.

Power Kids Triathlon & Bikeworks
http://power-kids.co.jp/
Don't let the name fool you, this place doesn't sell ANY kid's bikes. A boutique of a store, Power Kids is spacious, beautiful shop with expert staff and high-tech tools to help you with stride, other problems you may be having. Try out a pair of running shoes in the store, rent a wetsuit before your triathlon. One of the few stores to occasionally sell used bikes. Friendly staff, too. Their Isesaki store opened on Sept. 1, 2010. The Takasaki store is just a few blocks northwest of Cycle Yoshida. Nearest station: JR Takasaki Tonyamachi.

Cycle Base Asahi
群馬県前橋市大友町1-5-7
Mamachari, kid's bikes are their specialty - and they have a huge selection, far more than most places. Small selection of mountain & road bikes, but some cheap prices.
